AAKASH NIHALANI: GAFFING TAPE GRAFFITI

Aakash takes common, everyday gaffing tape or masking tape and creates. Boxes, yes, boxes. Hit up his website http://www.aakashnihalani.com, get the straight dope. And yes, I know, I know...Aakash just uses tape, and yes, yes, we've all made a box with masking tape, but don't hate! Did you push it to the next level? I didn't think so, because if you did, I'd be talking about you, right? Right.

14 Artists: Dennis McNett (Brooklyn, NY) will be exhibiting his striking sculpture of a giant Wolfbat. Offsetting these are evocative images by Paul Wackers (San Francisco, CA), pairing decorative and organic, textile-like patterning to create colorful landscapes. Paintings by Richard Colman (San Francisco, CA) along with collages by Erik Foss (New York, NY) depict edgy erotic subject matter that enchant or shock, to the viewers delight. Drawing on psychedelic counterculture is the vivacious portraiture of Eddie Ruscha (Los Angeles, CA), alongside equally spirited painterly images of popular magazine covers by Kellesimone Waits (Los Angeles, CA). Lori D (Portland, OR), a regular jane of all trades adds to all of this with folk-like paintings that are often humorous in nature with an animated quality to them. Layers and layers of torn, collaged newspaper under every painting give texture and depth to Jodrin Isip's (Brooklyn, NY) images of pensive figures. Juxtaposing the whimsical appeal of Jordin Isip is artist Cleon Peterson (Los Angeles, CA). His hyper-violent paintings reflect the anxiety of our times with clashing figures symbolizing struggle between power and submission in the fluctuating architecture of contemporary society. Recycled artwork by The Date Farmers echoes Mexican-American heritage rooted in California pop culture. Their paintings, collages and three-dimensional sculptures contain elements influenced by graffiti, Mexican street murals, traditional revolutionary posters, sign painting, prison art and tattoos. Keeping the blood flowing through the veins of the streets is the art of Judith Supine (Brooklyn, NY) with his distinct color palette, subject matter, technique, and bold themes; his street installations and collages resonate with a growing audience. Reverberating this is graphic imagery of Skullphone's (Los Angeles, CA) large painted canvas. Adding a playful yet charming element to the group is muralist and painter My Mo (Berlin, Germany) with hand-painted monsters on brown paper bags.

Shepard Fairey aka OBEY and Levis have teamed up to drop their newest collab, a limited edition capsule collection of apparel and some bitchin' posters, too.

OBEY will be creating a mural during a live installation at the Levi’s Store in Times Square, NYC, where he will unveil a series of 4 new poster designs at a live art install outside of the Levi’s Store. After Shepard completes the install, he will autograph his new posters. The 4-poster series will be 'gift with purchase' while supplies last.

The front-side of each of the 4 double-sided posters features a unique image. The flip-side of each poster also includes one piece of an over-sized mural image specially designed by Shepard. This 5th “bonus image” can only be created by collecting all 4 poster designs and combining them together.

October 22nd, 2009 Posted by: Paper Monster

The premise of the book is simple. A handful of artists from across the globe were invited to submit four handmade pages representing their interpretation of the theme "love sour love". The only guidance provided was a strict color pallet of black, white, and any shade of green they found appropriate. The result is a book full of varied printing styles and paper textures.

Artists included in this book are as follows:
