BOB PARTINGTON: BRIEFCASE GRAFFITI

NYC. Back in '03-'04. The Soho sidewalks, yes, sidewalks, were covered with "sniper-scope" stylized, stencil tags. I, like everybody else that paid attention to the stencils, just assumed that these were typical cut cardboard stencils that were hit with a can of D.O.T. (Dept of Transportation) yellow spray paint. Wrong. The stencils were anything but typical and they were the creations of one hell of a mad scientist...Bob Partington.

Among other things, Bob builds machines that create art. His sidewalk tagging machine was one such devise, cleverly hidden in the guts of a briefcase. How? When set down on any surface, a trigger at the base of the briefcase activates a solenoid device, which in turn releases Bob's tag. Totally stealth. Totally sweet.

Want to see more of the craziness that comes out of Bob's workshop? Well then, check out his site HERE

VANDALIZED CHICAGO BANKSY PIECE GETS A FACE-LIFT

In an earlier post, I reported that Banksy's 'You Concrete Me' piece (in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood) was vandalized by a local 'crew'. It is quite clear that a segment of Chicagoan's were strongly opposed to the anti-Banksy graffiti. This morning, in the wee hours, a 3-good Samaritans, paint & wax pen in hand, made the needed repairs to the stone-faced Banksy.
Banksy fans across the globe can now raise a pint to the awesome persons responsible for the face-lift.

CHICAGO BANKSY PIECE GETS DEFACED BY LOCAL CREW

Never mind worrying about the good ole' Mayor Daley & his merry band of Po-Po buffing the few Chicago Banksy pieces out, worry about the locals!

Banksy's "you concrete my" piece in the Pilsen, Chicago neighborhood was destroyed late last night. BANKSSUCK was sprayed across one side of the humorous image, as well as whiting-out the word 'concrete' in the dialogue bubble. I can only imagine that the vandals possibly intended on ad-libbing some of Banksy's dialogue.

The crew believed responsible for this act seems to have given themselves credit, but I won't print their name here. You can see for yourself, look closely. And we Chicagoian's wonder why Banksy and other internationally well known artists fly past us on their travels? Bummer, dudes, bummer.

NICE-1 X CHICAGO WHEATPASTE

Chicago is almost a complete and total barren wasteland when it comes to wheatpastes...they almost don't exist here. Needless to say, I'm always stoked when someone gets up. NICE off of Halstead & Milwaukee St.

MR. BRAINWASH: NEW PRINT. NEW SHOW

Stencil/ wheatpaste madman, Mr. Brainwash is crazy-busy these days...he's building up for his huge NYC gig 'ICONS' this February. How big is big, you say? I'm told that he's high-jacked a 15,000 square foot space in NYCs Meat Packet District AND he's donating a portion of his sales to the American Red Cross for Aid to Haiti.

Each of his Mondrian inspired, 8-color screen prints are on archival paper and hand finished, splashed with spraypaint, signed & numbered by MBW. He's even included his thumb print on the flipside...for that added bit of authenticity. The 36"x36" print drops January 20th.

THE GHOST VILLAGE PROJECT X AGENTS OF CHANGE

The Ghostvillage Project was created over 3 days on the west coast of Scotland. 6 artists - Timid, Remi/Rough, System, Stormie Mills, Juice 126, Derm - were given free reign to paint in an abandoned 1970s village. Working together on huge collaborative walls and individually in hidden nooks and crannies all over the site the artists realised long held dreams and were inspired by the bleakness and remoteness of the site. Drawing on the history of the village the artists' stated intent on completion of the project was to populate the ghostvillage with the art and characters that it deserved.
