Fujiya & Miyago "Ankle Injuries"

Although 'Ankle Injuries' by Fujiya & Miyagi is a catchy tune, this is one of those instances when a video outshines the song. The entire video is animated with the use of multi-colored dice...out-f'ing-standing!

N.A.S.A. featuring The Date Farmers, OBEY & Stephan Doitschinoff

The collective known as N.A.S.A. (North America, South America) have the sickest line-up of artists, whether in the music or art arenas. Dig on these 3 fine examples.

TILLES SINGER: SKATEBOARDANIMATION

Tilles Singer put together this lo-fi little stop-motion animation flick of a gang of skaters doing what they do best, making due with urban features. He used the basics: a ton of skate mags & jillions of digital pics. With the patience of a saint...cuts 'n pastes, fires up some sparklers & shoots. Strings it all together and voilĂ ! Movie magic.

So, roll yourself over to Tilles' Vimeo and get a gander at some of his other work.

RYAN DOOLEY: GENIUS or MADMAN?

On a semi-recent trip back to NYC I snapped a random picture of this primitive bird-man figure scrawled on a wall, somewhere around West 23rd & the West Side Hwy. I had absolutely no idea who the artist was, until last month, that is. With a wee bit of research and a dash of dumb luck, I found out that dudes name is Ryan Dooley and I'm convinced that he's either a freaking genius or a complete and total madman or both.

PS: when you view the attached video, titled 'Home 3", be on the look-out at the 2-minute mark where you'll see the bird-man figure again.

Check out his 2-dozen or so Vimeo's HERE or hit up Ryan's website HERE

I MET THE WALRUS: JOHN LENNON ANIMATED

I've just seen this animation on Current TV...stellar! After watching the Current TV episode I visited James Braithwaite's ('I Met The Walrus' co-animator) website...he's a God Damned genius.

"In
1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview. 38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and illustrators James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina have collaborated to create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack. A spellbinding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit and timeless message, I Met the Walrus was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short and won the 2009 Emmy for 'New Approaches' (making it the first film to win an Emmy on behalf of the internet)."

ANDY MARTIN 'DO YOU SPEAK COKE'

I'm diggin' on a recent Coca Cola commercial for their 'Secret Formula' campaign. Just your basic stop motion animae, set to the tune of Malcolm McLaren's 'Do You Like Scratchin?' in a NYC subway car. I've also gone over to Strange Beast TV...an INSANE collection of animation shorts by various artists, including Andy. What a hoot!

BROTHERS QUAY: INSTITUTE BENJAMENTA 'CLASSROOM DANCE'

The Brothers Quay are always a few cents short of a dollar and this clip doesn't argue that fact.
'Based on the writings of Swiss author Robert Walser, this beautifully dark film combines fantasy and fairytale, telling the story of a boarding school for servants. Photographed by cinematographer Nic Knowland, the academy's hallowed halls are dull and drab, and the students spend their days repeating a single lesson. When Jakob (Mark Rylance) enrolls in the school, he becomes enmeshed in the lives of the strange siblings who run it'.
